Wine Club Newsletter June ’16

Welcome to June! Before we get to the Club wine
descriptions, just a few announcements.

Your 2nd quarter STOCK UP DAYS are this coming
weekend, 6/4 and 6/5. This is your chance to get

Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to
taste all 4 Club wines for free, falls on Tuesday,
June 7th, from 4-9.

Now for the vino, Silver first. The 2012 Teague
Cabernet Sauvignon is from San Benito, and
it’s pretty damn tasty:

This is classic Cab, with blackcurrants, dusty earth,
blackberry, and touches of green pepper, vanilla, oak,
and spice. It’s juicy and ripe without being over-extracted,
and it shows balance and good structure.

Silver #2 is the 2011 Barrel 27 “Head Honcho” Syrah
from Santa Barbara.

The wine is loaded with aromas and flavors of blackberry,
pepper, lychee, violet, olive, cassis, lavender, and smoky
plum, plus sweet tannins and a lifted finish full of spice.

Now for Gold. First is the 2014 Michel Chapoutier
Bila Haut Occultum Lapidem, which is a Grenache-
based blend from the Cotes du Roussillon in France.

It’s both a mouthful to pronounce, and to drink,
receiving 92-95 points from the Wine Advocate:

“Terrific purity and freshness in its black raspberry,
blackberry, pepper and rock-laced bouquet. Elegant
and fresh, with impressive tension, focus and tannic
grip through the finish, it looks to be another superb
vintage of this cuvee.”

Finally we offer the 2012 Domaine Eden Cabernet
Sauvignon from the Santa Cruz Mountains, 92
points Vinous:

“One of the real undiscovered gems in California.
Plump, juicy and exuberant, the 2012 offers gorgeous
breadth and intensity throughout. Red-fleshed fruit,
sweet spices, mocha and flowers are all pushed forward.
The interplay of expressive, pliant fruit and classic struture
is compelling. You can look forward to another decade
or so of fine drinking.”
