Welcome to March! Here are the deets:
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to
taste all 4 Club wines for free, falls on Wednesday,
March 8, from 5-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Michele Kuehner.
Congratulations, Michele!
For the Silver Wines, we lead off with the 2013
LaMadrid Cabernet Franc Reserva from Argentina.
Here is Wine Enthusiast’s 91 point note:
“Black cherry, dark plum and charred rubber give this a
masculine opening. Generous and layered across the
palate, this tastes of blackberry, chocolaty oak and spice.
A lasting, tannic finish is loaded with oak and baking
spice flavors. Drink this ripe, delicious bruiser through 2021.”
Silver #2 is the 2014 Ryder Estate Syrah from California’s
Central Coast. Its meaty, savory nose accented by black
cherry and blackberry gives it away immediately.
Those same notes follow through on the palate,
alongside accents of smoke and spice. It’s fun and
sippable, with enough structure to hold it together.
Now for those Gold Wines. Check out the 2014 Frog’s Leap
Zinfandel from Napa Valley, 94 points Wine & Spirits:
“This is a beautiful Napa red that happens to speak
with an accent of Zin. Winemaker John Williams is
on a roll. He co-ferments his Zin with a bit of Petite
Sirah, which brings the tannins together in a gentle
structure for the perfectly ripe berries, pepper, and spice.”
Last we offer a wine that I personally am a huge
fan of, the 2013 Domaine Eden Cabernet from
the Santa Cruz Mtns. This received an amazing
98 point score from Decanter Magazine, and
92 points from Vinous:
“A huge overachiever in its price range. Inky dark red
and blue-fleshed fruit, smoke, spices and licorice hit
the palate as this exuberant, radiant Cabernet shows
off its racy personality. There is more than enough
plumpness to make it approachable young, but also
enough density to drink well for a number of years.
Graphite, smoke, licorice and black cherry jam infuse
the super-expressive finish.”
Pretty good group of wines, if we say so ourselves!
Come on in and taste them for free this Wednesday,
March 8th.
Hope to see you soon. Thanks as always for your
kind friendship and support!
