Wine Club Newsletter March 2018

2018 is rolling along, and here we are in March. We’ve got great wines
picked out for you, which we’ll discuss in a moment. First of all…

Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to taste all 4 Club wines
for free, falls on Wednesday 3/7, from 5-9.

Now here are your wines, Silver Level first. The 2015 Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is quite a mouthful – of syllables as well as wine!

This is juicy, fun and quaffable, with plum and berry fruit aplenty, and a bit of minerality, finishing off with a savory component. It’s got good structure and is a delightfully drinkable wine that delivers a lot for the money.

Next is the 2015 Famille Perrin Vinsobres, a 50/50 red blend of Syrah
with Grenache from the family behind Château de Beaucastel of
Châteauneuf-du-Pape fame.

It’s ripe and generously fruity yet bone-dry, with hints of smoky plum,
blackberry, licorice, black olive and spice. The tannins are polished,
adding just the right amount of grip and structure.

We segue to Gold now, and the 2015 Dry Creek Cabernet Sauvignon from, of course, Dry Creek! 82% Cab with a bit of Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cab Franc and Malbec.

It displays lively aromatics of black cherry, black currant and plum. Additional airing reveals nuances of leather and toasted almonds. The palate is full-bodied and rich with elegant flavors of black raspberries and cocoa powder. The wine is fruit-forward and youthful, with moderate tannins and a finish of white pepper.

And we wind up with the 2014 J. Bookwalter Protagonist from the Conner-Lee Vineyard in Columbia Valley. 90% Cabernet with Syrah, Malbec, Cab Franc.  92 points Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator:

“Rich and polished, defined by a core of refined tannins, wrapped in textured flavors of black cherry, espresso and toasty spice that glide through the long finish.”
