Lots to get to this month, so here we go!
First is a heads-up about another WINE CLASS we’re offering Monday, September 10. Yes, Monday. Which means you get the place to yourself, since we are closed
to the public on Mondays. The class will once again be taught by Cat, and the
subject is France! Time is from 6:30-8 pm. The cost for non-members is $30,
including wine tasting, but YOU as a member get it for $25. We are limited to
12 students, so let us know quickly if you’re interested!
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to taste all 4 Club wines for FREE,
falls on Tuesday the 4th, any time from 5-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Keith Krzewski. Congratulations!
The 3rd Quarter STOCK-UP DAYS fall on Saturday and Sunday, the 8th and 9th.
You get 10% off everything in the shop, so take advantage!
Now here are your wines, Silver Level first. First up is a new vintage of a previous
Club wine, the 2016 Ancient Peaks Renegade, a Paso Robles blend of
32% Syrah, 25% Zinfandel, 20% Malbec, 19% Petit Verdot, 4% Petite Sirah.
The wine offers heady aromas of plum, cherry, violets, vanilla bean and savory leather with a suggestion of baking spice. Juicy flavors of red and black fruits co-mingle seamlessly across a rich, expansive palate, revealing hints of wildberry jam, sage and cedar. Lively yet integrated acidity lends elegance to this otherwise powerful wine, carrying notes of black pepper into a long, balanced finish.
Silver #2 is another new vintage of a previous favorite here in the shop, the 2016
Bedrock Old Vine Zinfandel. In the old field blend tradition, it is about 88% Zinfandel blended with Petite Sirah, Carignan, Alicante Bouschet, and many different interplanted varieties that maintain poise and add complexity and structure.
Here is the 91 point note from Wine Spectator: “Fun to drink, with expressive raspberry and violet aromas and zesty, vibrant cherry, toasted cinnamon and spice flavors that finish on a lively note. Drink now through 2021.”
Gold Level wines next. The 2014 Keenan Zinfandel hails from the Spring Mountain
district of Napa Valley, high in the Mayacamas Mtns.
This wine shows intense black cherry and raspberry fruit in the nose, while hints of black pepper and vanilla add complexity. This is a rich, full-bodied Zinfandel that will accompany a wide array of foods, but we suggest anything barbecued – smoky barbecued flavor is a great match for this bottle.
Your second Goldy is another shop favorite, the 2016 Belle Glos Clark & Telephone
Pinot Noir from Santa Maria Valley.
This unusually dark, rich Pinot shows off lush aromas of blackberry bramble, nutmeg, and a hint of caramel. The wine is fresh and exuberant in the mouth with sumptuous strawberry jam, ripe black cherry, cranberry and warm gingerbread. It is perfectly balanced with refreshing acidity, velvety tannins and a hint of toffee carrying through its long finish.
Cheers, and have a great month!
