September is here, and so are your wines!
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to taste all 4 Club wines
for free, falls on Tuesday the 5th, from 5-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Mike Carella. Congratulations, Closer!
As for your Q3 stock up days, they fall on the second weekend in
September, the 9th and 10th.
Here are the Silver wines. First is the 2015 Masso Antico Primitivo –
which we know as Zinfandel – from Salento, in the “heel” of the Italian boot.
Italian wine writer Luca Maroni gave this wine 99 points. We wouldn’t
go quite that far, but it’s good! 1/4 of the grapes are dried, giving it
a rich, concentrated, spicy character. Notes of dark berries and plums
make this a very tasty wine.
Silver #2 is the 2015 Textbook Merlot from Napa Valley, which is
a classic representation of varietal and appellation.
Aromas and flavors include blackberry, blueberry, black cherry,
and hints of mint and vanilla. The grippy tannins add structure
and a great textural element.
Now for the Gold Level. The 2015 Chakana Estate Red hails
from Uco Valley in Argentina. 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet,
it got 92 point scores from Wine & Spirits and Vinous:
“Scents of dark raspberry, pepper, chocolate and menthol, with spicy
and floral high notes to its raspberry and currant fruit flavors. This
impeccably balanced, structured wine finishes with firm but harmonious
tannins and a spicy, peppery note.
Last up is the 2013 Thorn Merlot from Napa Valley, 91 points
Wine Spectator:
“A firm structure combines with ripe, plush fruit to make a winning
Merlot. Aromas of currant, espresso and grilled herb open to
complex flavors framed by ripe tannins.”
That’s the news for September. Cheers!
